Repellents and Mosquito Control Devices

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends the following active ingredients in mosquito repellent formulations for skin and clothing:

  1. DEET (N'N-diethyl-m-toluamide)
  2. Picardin
  3. Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus, or PMD (p-menthane 3,8-diol)
  4. IR3535

Another ingredient, permethrin is recommended for use as a repellent on clothing.

The above repellant ingredients have been reviewed and registered by the Enviromental Protection Agency for safety and efficacywhen used according to the label. Always follow label guidelines when selecting and using insect repellents.
